Dealing With A Mate That Expects Too Much From You
Are you getting pretty sick and tired of your mate making you feel like you never do enough for them? This is often a serious problem in a relationship when one partner needs the other to always be doing something extra for them that they do not do for you. It is probably not because you mind doing little things for them sometimes or even often, but when they seem to expect it as some kind of payment for them loving you and gracing you with their presence, this can be really annoying and a big turn off for you.
It used to be that most of the time if a partner had a gripe about things like this, it would be the woman in the relationship, but these days what with so many women working as many hours as the man or with relationships between the same sex, the tables have turned a little bit. Whether your mate is male or female really has nothing to do with it when a partner is doing a lot more taking than giving. It might be sweet and feel kind of good to do all of those little niceties for them in the beginning, but when they begin to act like your servitude and compliance is their due, this is when the enjoyment flies right out the window.
Little favors can be things like picking up their dirty socks all of the time. When coffee is made in the morning, they might just assume that they will be getting their cup in bed. If the dog needs a walk late at night, they just figure that you will do it. If you run out of milk, it is always you that has to run to the store. These are usually small issues, but when a relationship starts out this way or is ending up this way, it can often escalate into bigger things that you really can not tolerate.
Eventually when you live with a person that thinks you owe them more consideration than they owe you, it can turn into things like, you have to work and whether or not they do is a choice. This could be a male or female too these days. There are beginning to be just as many men who want to be taken care of as women have sometimes been in the past. They even might begin to think that it is alright for them to cheat, but not you. They might feel like they deserve late nights out with their friends, but that is taboo for you.
You always have to watch out when a relationship begins to feel really one sided. There are times when it might be this way for either one of you and that is alright when it might be appropriate, but when it becomes a way of life and you feel like you are being treated very unfairly, it is time to have a talk and perhaps even see a counselor. If they do not think there is a problem, it might even be time for more drastic measures if you are that unhappy.
